Around 20 km (12 miles) from Étain, the Verdun battlefields are striking. You can travel back in time in the various sections:

  • battle sites,
  • burial sites,
  • living sites and memory sites.

Verdun also hosts the World Peace Centre and the largest light and sound show in Europe, “From Fire to Light”:  spectacle-verdun.com

Les Éparges Site

Located 22 km (13 miles) from Étain, you can visit the Les Éparges site, a strategic location during the Battle of Verdun overhanging the banks of the Meuse. The fighting at Les Éparges took place underground, but many monuments marking out the site are still visible: the Le Coq monument, the Engineers memorial…

Camp Marguerre
